The rebuilding of Central Park by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and the Central Park Conservancy, the first citizen-government partnership to be created in support of a major public park, has inspired similar initiatives to improve and maintain public spaces in the United States and elsewhere. The images and text herein have been adapted from a lecture prepared by Elizabeth Barlow Rogers, former Administrator of Central Park and founding President of the Central Park Conservancy, in cooperation with Sara Cedar Miller, Central Park historian and photographer. |
